2014 Feb 20

A select group of Army and Navy Academy Cadets will be participating in the 38th annual Military School Band Festival on February 21-23, 2014. The festival is hosted by Randolph Macon Academy in Front Royal, VA, and will culminate with a concert in Alexandria, VA, as part of the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) Annual Meeting.

The weekend will be filled with clinics and rehearsals for top musicians from over 14 military schools across the country. There will be both choral and instrumental clinics, as well as a special concert for festival participants by the United States Army Chorus on the evening of Friday, February 21.

This year, the band conductor is Dennis M. Layendecker, D.M.A., Col. USAF (Retired), and Director of George Mason University's School of Music. He will be leading Mark Ruiz of La Mesa, CA on the clarinet, along with other secondary and collegiate military school musicians.

The final concert of this year's festival is especially notable because will be performed in celebration of the 100th anniversary of AMCSUS. The student-musicians will be performing for military school heads and administrators, in addition to other special guests.
