Mark Ruiz receives Atkinson Warrior Band Award

Army and Navy Academy is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2014 Atkinson Warrior Band Awards. The Atkinson Warrior Band is an integral part of the history and tradition of the Army and Navy Academy going back over 100 years, and the awards recognize the accomplishments of our outstanding bandsmen.

Mark Ruiz of La Mesa received the Most Proficient Woodwind Player Award. Cadet Ruiz is a very talented musician whose skills on the clarinet have played a major role in the Advanced Band.

"Music, whether we are creating it or listening to it, can be a life-changing experience. The sacrifice of time and effort to learn to create a meaningful music experience cannot be duplicated," says Rich Nunley, Bandmaster, "The combination of the musical experience along with other academic, athletic, and social events on this campus makes us who we are: a place to discover who we are and who we will become, a price to find ourselves and support each other."
