Nicholas Jason Marino of Thousand Oaks, CA was awarded his high school diploma at the 106th Commencement Ceremony at Army and Navy Academy, a private military boarding school in Carlsbad, California. He was one of 57 Cadets who graduated from the school on Saturday, June 3, 2017.

Diplomas were presented by President MG Arthur M. Bartell, U.S. Army (Ret.), Barry Shreiar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Ethan Segovia, Dean of Academics, during the Saturday afternoon ceremony, along with special awards.

The 2017 Commencement speaker was Brigadier General David Brahms, retired Marine Corps Brig. Gen. with a 27-year career including serving as a military lawyer with the 2nd Marine Division during the U.S. military incursion into the Dominican Republic in 1965 and later with the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Da Nang, Vietnam. He also served as the Director of the Marine Corps' Judge Advocate Division.

Brigadier General Brahms retired in 1988 as director of the division that oversees the Marine Corps legal community. Later, he served as a technical consultant to the 1992 movie, "A Few Good Men." Brahms currently is of counsel to the Carlsbad law firm, Borg & Duisters.

"This is a special group with a special bond. Do not forget those bonds, celebrate them. Continue to maintain them," said Brig. Gen. Brahms. "I pray that what is to come is wonderful, but whatever the future holds, this special place has given you the tools to take it head on. Remember your experience at this Academy and honor it. By so doing, your future will be ensured."
