Rex Qiu Graduates from Army and Navy Academy

Rex Qiu of Hacienda Heights was awarded his high school diploma at the 105th Commencement Ceremony at Army and Navy Academy, a private military boarding school in Carlsbad, California. He was one of 74 Cadets who graduated from the school on Saturday, June 4, 2016.

Diplomas were presented by Dr. Lisa Basista, Dean of Academics, in the Saturday afternoon ceremony, along with special awards.

The 2016 Commencement speaker was Brigadier General David A. Ottignon, Commanding General of the 1st Marine Logistic Group at Camp Pendlton. Brig. Gen. Ottignon has served as a Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer in 3d Combat Engineer Battalion, 3d Marine Division; as a Company Commander and Operations Officer in 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group; as an Executive Officer and Commanding Officer in 2d Combat Engineer Battalion, 2d Marine Division; and as a Group Commander, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing Commander.

Brig. Gen. Ottignon has been awarded a Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with gold star, a Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy Commendation Medal, the Joint Meritorious Achievement Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal with gold star and the Combat Action Ribbon.

"You have been prepared very well for the next level by your teachers, counselors, and coaches," said Brig. Gen. Ottignon. "Reach for the future, but don't forget your past." Qiu's future is bright - in Fall of this year, he will be attinding University of British Columbia - Okanagan Campus.
