Trever Doner Commemorates 9/11 in Annual Ceremony on the USS Midway

2014 Sep 12

On the thirteenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on our nation, Trever Doner of Snohomish joined FDNY Retirees of San Diego and the greater San Diego community on the USS Midway to pay tribute to those we lost and to keep our vow to never forget the events of the horrific day in our nation's history.

Doner traveled to the Midway with COL Kevin Batule, USA (Ret), Commandant of Army and Navy Academy, where he is a student in the class of 2017. As Doner read names of the fallen, his classmate Zachary Paish played Taps on the bugle.

"As you go through life today, it is important to reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of our first responders, military, and all professionals who pledge to keep our nation safe," said COL Batule, as he spoke to the students to emphasize the importance of commemorating 9/11.

The memorial takes place each Sept 11th on the deck of The USS Midway and is a major community event, featuring a twenty-one gun salute, tolling of the bells by the SDFD, an emergency helicopter flyover, and a Harbor Police Fireboat Water Display. This year, the guest speaker was Kevin Faulconer, mayor of San Diego.
