Trever Doner Completes Service Project in support of Wounded Warrior Project

2014 Aug 13

Camp Challenge is Army and Navy Academy's flagship summer leadership camp, established in 2010. As the only credit-producing summer leadership course west of the Mississippi, Camp Challenge is the premier summer program for high school students seeking Leadership Education and Training.

Each year, Camp Challenge Cadets organize a community service project. This year, they chose to support the Wounded Warrior Project, the nationwide organization whose mission is "to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation's history."

Cadets, including Trever Doner of Snohomish, organized a community car wash, with all proceeds benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project. Car washes cost $5.00 each, and supporters could give more if they desired. The Cadets washed over 150 cars, raising $876.00 for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Kevin Schaeffer, spokesman for the organization, came to campus on August 2, 2014 to accept the check and address the Cadets, telling his story of survival and his new mission of giving back to the community. His words were met with a standing ovation from the crowd.

This was Camp Challenge's most successful community service project to date and the start of a great partnership between Army and Navy Academy and the Wounded Warrior Project. The Academy looks forward to supporting the organization in the future through additional service-learning projects.
